WOMAN is on frame left facing the CAMERA. A MAN is in
profile on frame right facing the woman. The woman never
turns to face the man. The man remains in a profile.
WOMAN
I'm a woman...
MAN
You don't think they notice that?
WOMAN
And as a woman, I have a few
complaints...
MAN
Oh I doubt it's only a few.
WOMAN
My body for example.
MAN
That's a relief. I thought this was
going to be some feminist rant against
men.
WOMAN
You may have noticed the male-type person
standing to my left. Notice how he is
looking at me...how he is simply looking
at my body...at my breasts.
MAN
I can't see your breasts.
WOMAN
You want to see them. You want to see
them.
MAN
No. I want to touch them.
WOMAN
Notice the lack of respect. The lack of
sensitivity this male-type person has
toward women.
MAN
Not women. You. Just you. And I'm not
a male-type person, I'm a male.
WOMAN
We women cannot permit male attitudes to
define us.
MAN
Will you have sex with me?
WOMAN
See what I mean.
MAN
Well?
WOMAN
Not tonight. I'm menstruating.
MAN
Orgasms are best during menstruation.
WOMAN
I just washed the sheets. Are you going
to clean the sheets? Are you going to
ever clean anything in the house? Or how
about make the bed? Or wash the dishes?
Or maybe make dinner, just once. Just
once do you think you might make dinner?
MAN
You know...women are the best. I don't
know what we would do without you.
WOMAN
Women? You say women. Are you referring
to me, or others in your life?
MAN
You. I'm referring to you.
WOMAN
Today's our anniversary. Four years.
MAN
And still fighting.
WOMAN
We're not fighting. We're...we're
wrestling. Wrestling is good.
MAN
Talk is good.
WOMAN
Talk is good. We talk a lot.
MAN
But you never look at me.
WOMAN
Never? I never look at you? This is a
shoot. We're doing a shoot. I was
directed to look at the camera. I can't
look at you.
MAN
Can I change my direction?
WOMAN
You're the director.
MAN
Look at me.
The woman turns to look at the man.
MAN (cont'd) (contíd)
Can I kiss you?
WOMAN
It's not in the script.
MAN
I'm directing you to kiss me.
WOMAN
You're a director. You're not an actor.
Give me an actor to kiss.
The man takes the woman and kisses her on the lips. It is a
long wet kiss. Now the woman stays in profile and the man
turns to face the CAMERA.
MAN
Cut. I want you to print that and save
it for the rest of her life.
WOMAN
What about your life?
MAN
The rest of your life will mark the end
of my life.
WOMAN
You know...I love you.
MAN
The camera's not rolling.
WOMAN
Good.
The man turns toward the woman. They embrace and kiss and
we...
FADE TO BLACK.
THE END.
